Curated by Jacinto Lageira (University of Paris – Sorbonne), the Academia do Vagar was created to promote critical thinking and collective creation, placing the concept of VAGAR at the center of a new proposal for Europe and the world. The initiative brings together philosophers, sociologists, anthropologists, artists, and other thinkers who, from different disciplines, will contribute to building new perspectives on time, culture, human existence, and communion with everything that surrounds us.

The program will take place across various venues in Évora and Alentejo, strengthening the connection between Évora’s tangible and intangible heritage and contemporary thought.

The first three conferences already have scheduled dates and venues. The inaugural conference will be held on October 30 at the Palácio de D. Manuel, featuring Jacinto Lageira with the theme “VAGAR e vagares - pequena introdução a um grande projeto.” On November 20, at the Teatro Garcia de Resende, António Guerreiro will speak on “O VAGAR, uma tonalidade afetiva idiomática,” and on December 18, Agnès Lontrade will discuss “O tempo livre como paradoxo social. Pensar o skhôlè e o otium hoje.”

All conferences are free and open to the public, starting at 6:00 p.m.
