Évora_27 announces “Take Off”, the second cycle of the project “Lá nas Árvores”

“Lá nas Árvores,” a project of Évora_27 - European Capital of Culture, led by the University of Évora, in partnership with Projecto DME and Associação Lisboa Incomum, with artistic direction by Ana Telles, returns from April 9 to 12 with its second cycle entitled “Take Off”, which seeks to deepen the connection between contemporary musical creation, the natural and intangible heritage of Alentejo, artistic experimentation, and communities, opening new horizons of listening and participation.
On April 9, the Salão Central Eborense hosts the community opera Coro dos Pequenos Cidadãos, by composer Mariana Vieira, under the direction of conductor Pedro Nascimento. On the morning of April 10, pianist Joana Gama presents the project “Pássaros e Cogumelos” in a session aimed at children, at the Salão Central Eborense; in the evening, also at the Salão Central Eborense, the recital Aves do Alentejo em Música (Ana Telles) features the participation of biologist João Rabaça.
On April 11, the Salão Central Eborense welcomes Corpos Sonoros, a performance and workshop based on improvisation, led by Évora composer Pedro Latas and multi-instrumentalist Abdul Moimême. On the same day, an outdoor workshop “Escutar as Aves e as Árvores”, with João Rabaça, takes place with meeting point at Jardim Público de Évora.
On April 12, the program includes A Flauta de Tamborileiro no Alentejo, a collaborative outdoor performance at Herdade da Mitra, with tambourine player Gustavo Portela and Associação Pé de Xumbo, as well as an acousmatic concert with Annette Vande Gorne.
During April 11 and 12, the bandstand at Jardim Público de Évora hosts a sound installation, with pieces selected through an international open call for music, allowing visitors to explore different soundscapes within the city.
“Lá Nas Árvores” features three presentation cycles. The first took place in 2025, with the cycle “Sentir a Terra”; in 2026, the project presents “Take Off”; and in 2027, during Évora_27 - European Capital of Culture year, the third and final cycle “Coexistir, Construindo Futuro” will take place.
All activities are free of charge. Participation in workshops requires prior registration via the forms available at www.projecto-dme.org. For the program at Salão Central Eborense, tickets must be collected in advance on-site.
